One of the most common questions before a yacht charter is surprisingly simple:
“What do we actually need to bring?”
The good news is that most people tend to overpack.
Whether you’re heading out for a weekend sailing trip around the Solent or a longer charter along the South Coast, life onboard is usually far more relaxed and practical than people expect. Here’s a guide to the essentials, and what’s already waiting for you onboard.
Storage space onboard yachts is limited, so soft bags or holdalls are always the best option.
Hard suitcases can be awkward to store safely and quickly end up taking up valuable cabin space. A flexible bag that can fold away once unpacked makes life much easier for everyone onboard.
Even in summer, it can feel noticeably cooler out on the water.
Layers are always your friend onboard, especially when conditions change throughout the day. We’d recommend bringing:
• Waterproofs
• Warm layers or fleeces
• Comfortable clothing
• Non-marking shoes
• Sunglasses and sun cream
If you don’t have sailing waterproofs, wet weather gear hire can also be arranged before your charter.
Our yachts include the main galley essentials you’ll need during your trip, including:
• Fridges
• Cooking equipment
• Crockery and cutlery
• Basic galley equipment
You’re welcome to bring food and drinks with you, shop locally before departure, or arrange
provisioning before your charter to make arrival even easier.
Our yachts include the core onboard essentials to help you settle in comfortably during your trip.
Pillows and basic galley equipment are already onboard, while optional extras such as bedding packs and duvets can be arranged before your charter if required.
You can find more information about onboard extras and optional add-ons on by viewing our Optional Extras
Alongside clothing and personal items, it’s worth remembering the usual essentials you’d bring for any few days away, including:
• Towels
• Toiletries
• Medication
• Chargers and power banks
• Sunglasses
• Personal items you use daily
Don’t worry, you don’t need to figure everything out on your own before arriving.
Before your charter, our team will guide you through the yacht, answer questions, and help you prepare so you feel comfortable and ready to head out on the water.
Don't just take our word for it - hear from the happy customers who've sailed with us.
