Some acts of kindness don't need many words.
Earlier this year, one of our customers realised they could no longer use their planned weekend aboard Aphrodite Spirit. Rather than letting the booking go unused, they contacted us to ask whether it could instead be donated to a veterans' charity.
It was a wonderfully thoughtful gesture.
Working with the Gwennili Sailing Trust - a volunteer-run charity that has been providing offshore sailing opportunities for people with disabilities since 1995, including serving and retired members of the Armed Forces - we were delighted to help ensure the weekend found a new purpose.
Instead of an empty berth, Aphrodite Spirit, one of the yachts in our charter fleet, welcomed three military veterans for a weekend sailing adventure on the Solent.
Setting sail from Hamble Point, the crew headed to Yarmouth, spending time enjoying the sailing, learning together and, perhaps most importantly, enjoying each other's company.
A few days later, an email arrived in our inbox from one of the veterans, Will. With his kind permission, we're delighted to share part of his message.
Will explained that all three had left the Army and were now at different stages of building their new lives outside the military.
His words are a powerful reminder that time on the water can offer far more than simply the chance to go sailing.
Whether guests join us for a weekend yacht charter, a bareboat sailing holiday, or one of our skippered yacht charters, we often hear about the places they've visited and the memories they've made. This weekend was a reminder that sailing can also provide something less tangible but equally valuable: confidence, connection and the opportunity to simply pause for a while.
Perhaps the most moving part of Will's email was this:
It's difficult to imagine a better example of the positive impact that time on the water can have.
We're incredibly grateful to the customer whose generosity made the weekend possible. A charter they couldn't use became an experience that will be remembered by three veterans for many years to come.
Our thanks also go to the Gwennili Sailing Trust and its dedicated volunteers. For more than 30 years, they have been helping people experience the freedom, challenge and companionship that sailing can bring, creating opportunities that build confidence, promote wellbeing and leave a lasting impact. We're proud that this donated charter became a small part of that mission.
Finally, thank you to Will for allowing us to share his story and photographs. As he concluded in his email:
Sometimes the greatest journeys aren't measured by the miles sailed.
They're measured by the difference they make.
Every charter has its own story. Explore our charter fleet and see where your next adventure could take you.
Don't just take our word for it - hear from the happy customers who've sailed with us.
